Full course description

The Behavior Intervention Training and Teacher Support Act (BITS) was created by the Nebraska Legislature in the spring of 2023. This act mandates that every Nebraska public school teacher, administrator, counselor, paraprofessional, and nurse receive behavioral awareness training at least once every three years.

Where the BITS 101 focused on creating a shared language and awareness of trauma, behavior supports, and de-escalation practices, the BITS 102 takes the next step by offering actionable strategies educators can use to support students more effectively in their daily practice.

This course is organized into three modules:

  • Part 1: The Signs and Symptoms of Trauma
  • Part 2: Positive Behavioral Interventions, Supports, and Teaching Strategies
  • Part 3: Verbal Intervention and De-escalation Strategies

To successfully complete the course, you must progress through each module in order. This involves watching a series of videos and completing an assignment before accessing the next module. Once you have completed all three modules and their reflection assignments, you will be awarded a certificate of completion.

Note: The BITS 101 is not a prerequisite for taking the BITS 102. Either course, when completed by itself, fulfills the requirement, and schools can decide at the local level which training is appropriate for their personnel.
